On gardening and programming...

I keep trying my hands on roof gardening ... and so far i had more failures than success.
Well, there's plenty of sun shine & i water them regularly .... even giving regular does of nitrogen / manure .... but alas it never grows the way i see them in my dreams :(.

Apparently the problem is not of sun-shine or fertilizers, my garden pots suffer from weeds and grass mania !!!

No matter how much i wipe them off, put insecticides, "weedi-sites" (!!!)...grass (lots of it) and weeds keep coming back again and again. And i wonder WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO REALIZE WHAT YOU DREAM OF ??? yes, the entropy of any system can only increase .... but what about all the intervention to bring order and harmony, there should be some reward to that end.

I see similar patterns in Software - what percentage of all the programs written become useful to end consumers ? There's just too many grass and weeds that surrounds our program .... and they grow really very fast.

The pattern applies to life too ... but lets keep that for another blog.

Comments:
I dont know how I came across this blog. But looks like some real good thought about state of roof top gardening and useful software, which interests me too.
Adding to your point, just think of the bad impact of this weeds to the goodproduct (your tomato tree or the piece of software which has seen the light of the day).
On the positive side, sometimes this "weed" software can be modified to improve the original software. May be you can find out some way to tweak these weeds to improve your thee rather than blaming them for ruining you dreams :)
Ideas :
Uproot them and burry them deep down in the pot.

Thanks Adarsh. Yes, you are right. As Tagore said "there is joy even in hell, only that people living there don't realize it. And that is God's cruelest punishment to them" :).

As is common with everyone else (human psychology), I've undergone the phases of Blame (Why me), Denial (Not my fault), Anger ( !!! ) and Acceptance (ok, now what do we do ?). Over the years, I've learnt that coming to acceptance phase is the starting point of working towards the change you desire. And the faster we reach the Acceptance the sooner we can work for the change.

You rightly pointed out, the weeds if uprooted and buried back (after removing the core-root-centers) acts as natural fertilizer. Regular checkup brings in better result. I've had few success too, in-fact better than expected results on Tomato, water-melon, Coriander and Rose plants :).

The same is true with Software, accept that there will be bugs, there will be vulnerabilities ... Perfection is a evolving process.

Thanks for reading my posts.
